Gday flyers. After re-lighting the spark from my childhood. I decided to buy a kite from a hobby shop in perth. Nothing fancy just a $30 dual line. After about 20 mins of trying to keep it airborne i got a good hang of it. Now i'm hooked but my budget kite has developed a small tear after 2 days of flying. Now i want to get something more high end. Looking at kp wasn't sure to get a low end advanced kite such as the e2 or a high end sport kite like the hypno?

Welcome to the forums. Great bunch here and a lot of experiance to help with duel line kites. What kite you buy will be very dependant on what you want to do. A great first kite (dont consider the $30 kite a kite) is the Hypnoist. These are great kites and are very durable while learning to either fly or trick.

The E2's are slightly more advanced but they are an older design so some of the newer tricks are harder. If you are keen on an E2, send me a PM. I have one that has not been flown for a long time so can be talked into selling it.

Quallity of kites are price dependant. The more you pay the better the kite. If you want something that will stay in your quiver for along time (unless you are Steve_Hobart that sells kites 3 months after buying them) then you can look for the more advanced kites.

My duel line kite knowlage is not that good as I have not really flown duelise for over a year so some of the other guys here will give you more information.

Spotter you are just a rudy!

maklov, I suggest you call Jason at Briskites, he has a range of excellent kites starting at very reasonable prices and going all the way up to the expensive. He is also a very experienced flyer.

Some of the brands worth considering are Silver Fox, Level One or WidowMaker.

The Prism kites like the Hypno are fine, but pretty old style and relatively expensive. I think there are better kites out there at better prices than Prism's current range.

(Just my personal opinion).

Good luck.

Hey there...

Prism isn't the only option, but it's a good option from a learning perspective. Too bad they're so expensive by you guys. If you had a Prism Hypnotist and Zephyr, you wouldn't need anything else when you're learning. They are both quite durable, and you would have the entire wind range from 1mph to 20+mph covered. Not to mention, a full range of linesets, a cool carry case, and a DVD, all with the purchase of those 2 kites.

It does sound like a really good idea to contact Jason, I guess the owner of your local kite store, and find out what he recommends. And what he's got in stock, maybe a demo kite for less, so you can afford more kites... :diablo:

Yeah, Rev kites are ugly, but really pretty cool to fly. It's really easy to learn, I think easier than 2 line trick flying. It's not as complicated as you might think, but setting up a 4 liner takes a little more time & care. There are some better looking 4 liners out there, ask Steve about his AirBow. The Spirit is better looking, but isn't as capable as a Rev. Then there are Decas, they're flying works of art, but you've got to pay big $$$ for them.

It seems that anything will fly on four lines, I've seen pictures of a guy flying his Prism rollup bag on four lines, but my favorite is the flying cursor...

Hi maklov...Im into supporting your local kite shop...but their dual lines kites are very expensive and somewhat dated in design, mind you they will probably provide local support if you break something, so that;s a plus (althogu KP and Briskites provide support and spares overnight too).

Have a chat with them, and with Briskites and do a comparison. In the end go with who you feel comfortable dealing with and the kite design that you enjoy.

cheers

Supporting the local shop is a noble notion. Mine lets me down time & time again when it comes to ordering parts, or ordering a QPro SUL. They told me that they would order it, but never did. Glad I wasn't holding my breath.

It looked like some of those kites might be fun for someone that wanted to fly figures and carve lines, but the designs really look like they're 10-15 years old. Granted, the Prism Zephyr is the last significant design they came out with, but it's 2-3 years old at this point.

Prism is a great way to go for 'bang for the buck', or the Blue Moon kites also offer tremendous value for the money. I don't know how much they are there, but most Blue Moons are less than a QPro here.

Invest in your kites, it's worth it. You quickly forget how much you spent for a kite after you fly it a few times. The joy of flying a nice kite is priceless.

Hey Maklov,

I guess it will really come down to what you want out of your kite. If you want freestyle capabilities then yes Neil's kites are a bit dated. On the up side if you are after a kite that will handle the harsh conditions of beach flying in the Freo Doctor then Hold The Lines make some great stuff.

Neil is one of the nicest blokes in the industry and hand builds these kites in his workshop. He also does ALL of the WA repairs.

So I guess the question is Freestyle or not?

well, i guess i would be leaning more towards freestyle. simply for the on going interest levels. learning new things and working on tricks etc keeps u in the the game longer. i would hate to get bored of my newly found hobby.

ps. i asked gf to get me a kite for my birthday..she thinks im insane.

:D:D You'll get used to the 'insane' bit (and it's a cool trick as well) or as I like to think of it, maybe more along the line of 'eccentric'...

I'll echo the above comments, if 'freestyle' is going to be something you're going to aim at then there are better choices of kite out there for that sort of stuff.
