  1. Gem sure is a sweet kite to fly. As for 540s - They're something I've only recently started to get my head round - And 90% of those on an HQ Breeze... Have a look thru http://www.andywardley.com - His EZ-PZ 540 technique works well - Biggest thing I got was to make sure the pancake in was uneven and not to slap the line you hold back too hard. Could also try to work on the Slot - If you've got 1/2 Axels and cascades down nice the Slot should work nicely - Give a 2nd pop on the hand that initiates the 1/2 Axel when the nose is facing away and give lots of slack. Hope you get it nailed ...next - the Backspin
  2. EEP! Keep a couple intact (E2 at least) - you'll need 'em for end of August - remember Go Fly!
  3. The HQ range is good - Breeze, Jam Session and Obsession are nice kites. Well made, handle nicely and - as you said - affordable The Obsession is only about 75-80 quid so it's a good option. Check out some reviews on the GWTW-kites.com forums - might help your decision. Gotta Fly!
  4. The best way to do this is join one of the kiting bodies in the UK - You'll get better rates through them rather than going as an individual. There are also a few other perks - discount at a number of kite shops being one http://www.thekitesociety.org.uk http://www.stackuk.org The latter also permits you to enter their competitions. Hope this helps. Gotta fly!
  5. Well - at 150 you can rule out the Elixir - nice kite, but not too cheap... IMHO the Gem is hard to beat - It's a very accessible kite (was the 1st one I got) and relatively forgiving. If you're looking at the lower end of the range you could look at the Gem UL - it's a few quid dearer, but gives a few mph at the lower end of the range. A personal favourite of mine for lighter winds is the HQ Breeze - Flies really well and does some gorgeous flat spins - 540s and Slots are sweet. They're only about 80 new, so you'll have a couple of quid for beers Just my 2p Gotta Fly
  6. Out of the ones listed the Obsession would be a good contender - It's got a good wind range and is quite capable. The Alpha+ also seems to be regarded well enough. Another to consider - although I'm not sure of the UK price would be the Newtek Kites New Jam - Seems to be getting some good reviews. Regards, Dave
  7. Ah no! Soz to hear about the lower spreader D Not good when something breaks spontaneously like that - It lacks the satisfaction of a well earned 'crack' from a tipstab gone wrong This doesn't seem to be overly uncommon though for a number of E2 flyers - There's quite a few posts on the gwtw-kites.com forum on the subject. You could see if that gives you any leverage with the supplier in getting the spare sorted. Dave
  8. Handy tip for the Psycho - The leech line is a pain to work with - You;ll find it a lot handier to tie a loop in it at the appropriate tension and pop the loop into the end nocks to keep the trailing edge taut. If the leech line stretches - twist the end nock a bit - That'll wrap the leech line around it a bit - keeping the tension right. Hope this helps. Dave
