honestly... i hope the dude is ok, and has a full and speedy recovery, but...

If he is an expert, did his safety fail?

yeah the 'safety switch' in his brain failed when he decided to go flying in those winds

NOTE: all the other kiters on the beach including land based guys.

Easy to be so smart after the event, as we get better our confidence grows sometimes exceeding our ability. I do hate it when people get on the band waggon and just post the same old sh*t again & again.

Yes it was a bad call, but he is paying a heavy price.

Hope he get well soon!!

Why is it that the Top Hat video is named after the dude who happened to be being interviewed at the time and not the "pilot" who flew.:D

When Bleriot crossed the channel they did name it after the guy who own the field he flew from.

I bet the real guy gets pished when it's refered to as the TopHat video

@ slipstream ... your right, i do feel sorry for him, and hope he recovers quickly, but it wasnt meant as a dig at him only, its at all of them really. its not like a hurricane pops up out of nowhere, they all knew it was coming so they were all taking a massive risk, he's just the unlucky one who got spanked pretty hard

Says it all

Tropical Storm Fay was well publicized to strike South Florida on Monday and Tuesday, August 18 and 19, 2008. High winds were widely forecast with gusts on the order of 40 to 60 kts. in abundant squalls lines in feeder bands that were obvious on radar, satellite images and to the naked eye (see radar images). Weather hazard alerts were being broadcast through all media on a regular basis and were more than obvious to experienced watermen. Many kiteboarders looked at forecasts and conditions and said no way they were going out in these hazardous conditions. High winds, erratic wind changes, lightning, lulls are commonly known to pose serious hazards to kiteboarders in such squalls. Most kiters in the area hadn't been kiting in about a month and half due to seasonal light winds. Unfortunately, not all kiteboarders came to this same sensible conclusion that Monday.

It's not a good way for kiteboarding to be in the news, but as said in this thread, sometimes you wanna push yourself and try to excess/exceed your limits. I didn't take the time to read the full story, but I wonder why he didn't pull his safety when he was on the ground ....

ooh well, let's hope he get's well soon and enjoys his next kiteboarding sessions even more.
