.Joel
This is an article extract from the "Official Journal Of The National Geographic Society" November 1967 titled "Dry-Land Fleet Sails The Sahara." I came across this edition of National Geographic through a friend and thought it would be a good read for the land sailers in the community here. The article has been scanned from the original magazine so please excuse the imperfections on some pages as they're nearly 50 years old, enjoy. igeighty, mik333, gum-nuts and 2 others
Goz
Man that is one gutsy adventure given the equipment they used, 150 miles in a day is a damn good effort. Love the photo of the mast all cracked up and held together with tape and bandages.
Chook
Unreal !!!! Hard on gear and nerves too. I'm just going to have to get a pit crew like shown on pg 706, if my sailing is to improve mate. Cheers for that Joel.
Mez
"We'll just nip off and rebuild the blighter" Loved reading that story. I read it all through with out looking at the photos and pictured the whole thing. Chook
Mez
I was thinking over night, has anyone tried to attempt this trip again in a Land Yacht, they did it in Kite Buggies didn't they?
mik333
Thanks Joel, for your efforts in putting the story up for us. I like the Extreme Kites logo and the acknowledgement on each page. Michael Mez
