Hi my friends from down under ,
i played a bit with Ricoh Theta S for over a week before i send it back to Amazon. This 360 theme ist the next big thing! The problem is the resolution. The Theta S is just recording FullHD. It records the two 180° circles within the 1920x1080 frame leaving a lot a black parts unused for resolution. Afterwards you will need a app transferring the the two front and back view into a full 360° view video. This is still 1920x1080. If you use now a VR Player on your phone or browser you have something around a 6th of the resolution left (like a cubic with his 6 sides). The VR Player then is zooming a bit in as well so the picture will get very smooth .... I made a quick (very quick) cut with Theta mounted on the tube near the fork. The Theta S was attached with a GoPro klick mount to the camera screw at bottom. This made it a bit wobbly/instable. But you're able to see what it is like:
Kitebuggy on Fanø with a Ricoh Theta S Test (13 qm Vapor with GT-Race Rapide FL an Landsegler Discwheels on low wind)
Please use a phone to watch this in VR ! Move your head around !
I do have much more footage even in better quality with some sun, but i dint had the time to cut a nice movie with it.
A nice thing is how you're able to capture everything with just a press of a button into pictures:
This is a full 360° picture as you can see from the kites .... :
For me personly I would go for higher resolution ... it has to be at least 8k or even more ... The next step up would be 6 GoPros in a rig but this is a lot of money (https://www.camforpro.com/freedom360-explorer-mount-komplett-set-pro/) and you need to 6 SD cards and so on, not counting the free space on your hard drive and power to cut this. But this is just the beginning and i am happy to go with it.
At the moment there is a Indiegogo campaign: The World's Smallest 360 Camera - Nico360 | Indiegogo | Indiegogo This is the cheapest entry and it will be 4k ... (i ordered one for tryout ...
So what do you think about this? Do you like the 360° stuff?
windy regards from Berlin
Daniel
