Big congratulations to Darren   'twas a pleasure to meet you and it was excellent that we at least had enough wind to give both the LS2 and NS3 some air time.

The LongStar 2 really proved to have some legs....

I thank martin for taking on the job, that is a lot of steel to send down under,

With the demise of the local kiteshop, and the rise of online collaboration, you can see these things running, you can hear others views and experiences.
but it takes a lot of plain gut feeling to make a purchase from the other side of the planet. This just seems right.

thanks guys for getting these together, it will be get loved often.

@igeighty Cheers, yes I have tried to spread myself around a bit :D, from my NPW journey to these "new" style kites. I haven't gone for a full glass table due to not enough room to leave it set-up, I have an A3 glass cutting board for hot cutting, the rest I just use dressmaker scissors as it's all hemmed, obviously a large table is needed for marking the material out.
To-date I've made three this one being my 4th. I started with what I thought was a 10m2 , but didn't realise at the time the size is the flat quoted size and not the projected figure, so ended up with a super lightweight 12m2 beast which will pull from silly low winds. The quiver now stands at 5m2, 7m2 the 12m2 and soon the 3m2 high AR. I love them, made changes between each to see the effect, so at the moment I don't have a like for like at different sizes.
Go on, you know you want to build, always available for advice if needed.

    Hi BigE,
I am pretty stoked by this kite you are building and the previous few i stumbled across in other forums. but my bogan brain has just made the connection... you are the dude i had been reading his single skin building
you have built a few of these single skins ? good on you man, its great to see and fly a kite you KNOW wasn't turned out by the 1000's. i have been on the edge of committing to setting up a sewing room again. I used to make a few kites way ago....
Thanks mate, you've convinced me to go clear out the back room, and go and source a large tempered glass cutting table

This is what I do John.

I made a jig out of 1.5mm ply. The two squares are the guide for the presser foot so it doesn't run off. Just adjust the width of the zigzag to centre on the 2 dyneema lines.

I prefer to overhand knot one end of my sleeved lines, so I can equalize them easier when needed.

Yes they have stiffeners in each of the seams running up to the LE, I liked the idea and have since added them to my NPWs.  Easy to get hold of as it is 2.5mm - 3mm garden strimmer line (not sure if that's what you call them).  After I cut them to size I round the ends off, just to make sure it does not wear or even push through the fabric on a nose dive.

Picture of the motor setup below showing the brushless outrunner motor that runs on the tyre, water bottle for holding it off the tyre when not required, bike bag containing speed controller and volt meter, throttle with red button for power or regen, the battery's are in the bags.
The system worked well for charging our battery's, it generated most of our power, unfortunately our feeble battery's would only put out 250w so motoring was only possible on flat sealed roads, which there isn't an abundance of in Mongolia.
Improvements to work on for the next trip are adjustable regen level on the fly, gruntier battery's that are under the airline 330WH restriction, and improvements to the water bottle wedge system.

Didn't quite reach Eucla last night so a quiet camp among the trees on one of the numerous roadside stops.  Found my spot on the cliff top this morning and set off for a cliff top run which was excellent although a tad wArm.  After a beverage I put the kap kite up in 13ish knots perfectly off shore.  Changed angles then had some breaky before attempting another kap session.  But the wind had other ideas and came up to around 25knots halfway through the vitawheets!  And boy, did I have to work to pull the ultrafoil back down.  And flies!  Holy shit, hundreds on the little buggers crawling in behind the glasses too! Dropped back into the head of the bight for some whale watching but it was getting very bloody warm although the flies seemed perfectly happy.  By the time I'd spent a couple hours on the cliff top it became pretty obvious I wasn't going to log a lot of miles today so I'm back at Fowlers Bay this evening along with all the bloody flies! A couple of long driving days to get home but with high 30's and northerly's forecast, an air conditioned car could be the best place to be.
