one more1600949550 got a reaction from Alvin for a review, PKD Buster 9M
I'm just writing this review because might be some people interested, but in thuth I didnt buy this kite.
Yesterday I had the chance to fly one of the new Buster 9,0m². It already come with new improovements, like new lines, new handles (they are really long, almost 50 cm), a rubber cover in the place where are the knots of the AoA system, longer and stronger lines and the handles have one system that you can adjust the brake length in seconds (particulary I prefer the traditional knots).
The construction seems to be quite good. The sewing are all made internal and reinforced, the trailing edge had a double sewing and the air intakes have also a kind of reinforcement. I nitice that the also put these disgonal profiles inside. It is huge big and light orange, but the aspect ratio should be not more than 3,?.
Took just a few minutes to unpack and to check if was everything allright. The handles have also one connection on the top to be used with harness (i also dont like that), but you are most welcome to cut that.
The wind was almost 0 mph. Even my hair was not mooving. But anyway, was the first trial....so a few steps back pumping with the arms and the kite got up. I was amazed of the amount of air that goes inside. The wind was about 1-2mph and the kite was producing some traction. The wind window was huge and the kite sits happly everywhere you put it. The shape of the kite in the air is beautiful, but i notice that it is much more flat than the smaller models (from 5,5 below).
The turning rate is good for the size of the kite, but as we didnt have too much wind we couldnt try all the potential of the kite. The brakes were very responsive, although unusefull in such conditions.
Its quite fun to fly such a big and stable kite. I guess it would pull a lot in a 5-10 mph. Maybe would be a good buggy machine for the days nobody else can fly.
Here in the continent it costs about 345,00€ (230 pounds). Its quite cheap for the amount of material it contains.
Conclusions: extremely stable, construction improoved, fly in less than a 6p (you can give a 360 turn with the kite just walking), cheap and good traction.

one more1600949550 got a reaction from bakersdozen for a review, HQ Symphony 3.3M
I got this kite about two years ago in Poole and first of all I was very disappointed when I realized that it was not a 3.3 m². That’s just a marketing game of HQ to make it sounds like bigger.

The Kite comes alone (without lines, handles) in a very simple bag. The construction itself is quite good for the price. Has very strong bridles and the sewing is quite well done. I’ve already flied this kite in very strong winds and it still looks like new.

I made the mistake to take 2 years flying it just in 4 lines. And being disappointed whit it most of the times. The brake lines drag completely the kite and have serious problems to go to zenith. In strong winds it was pulling me more to the front then to the places a good kite would pull you. The window is relatively small and it lufts very easily.

...but when I took the brake lines away it behaves completely different. As the wind beat the kite it flew straight to the zenith. It was very stable, quick and powerful. The shape looked much better and the window got bigger. I could also solve this problem of the brake lines with power rings. They really worked with this kite.

All in all it’s a recreational kite, but in strong winds (more than 15mph) it can work as a traction kite for bugging or mountainboarding. The uplift is strong and you can also use for small jumps. I’m 72 kilos and I could do some in medium to strong winds. Be careful with gusty winds! Its not a stable kite, but has its fun factor.

They are cheap, but I think you can have something better for this price (maybe a Radsail or even a Firebee).

I’m not English speaker (brasilian) so, sorry for eventual mistakes.

one more1600949550 got a reaction from bakersdozen for a review, Flexifoil Blade 4.9M
Here comes one more review of the well known Blade. This is for the Blade mk1 4.9m2 flying with 500/300-30 m lines. After a lot of search for a bigger kite I decided to get one used Blade. This search included one month intensive internet research, endless conversation (forum and local flyers) and of course testing some kites.

So, I got this blade for amazing 175 euros = 120 pounds. It came in the traditional Flexifoil rucksack with the big logo on top. The construction’s quality of the kite started already with the rucksack! Before unpack was my heart beating at 200…..was finally the time to open a fulfilled old dream. Since 2001 I wanted to get one of those, but doing voluntary work around the world (England and Ecuador) I could never afford to get one of those.

The kite didn’t fit in the bedroom, so I had to open in the sitting room. So big and beautiful (blue /red /purple). The construction everybody knows…it’s just great. I checked the kite in all the details and it was just perfect, as new. There are two cells in each side which are closed (I think is the main difference to the other Blades, the II and III has just one) which flying doesn’t make difference at all. The bridles were a bit tangled, but in 10 minutes they were again perfect. It’s nice to have a kite which is made with care in all the details. Heart at 250, nice weather and good wind 20 – 30 Km/h, almost too much for a first trial, but you just can’t hold yourself to put this beauty in the air.

Went to the park and saw two friends with Radsail pro 6,0 and Blade III 4,0. They were doing fine, so I prepared my equipment to fly. The blade sat nicely waiting for the time to fly. I walked a bit to don’t launch in the middle of the window and of we go…. 15 meters scudding just to launch. It went straight to the Zenith and I automatically adopted the traditional Blade position, praising to God above. After that I wanted to see a bit what it can do so started with a few movements to the sides of the window. It was just amazing the lift it generates. Just a bit of movement (or a gust) and you are 2 meters high. After 15 minutes I was exhausted and almost having a heart attack so I decided to take a break. To land was not difficult. I was amazed about the control you can have over this kite. The brake lines are not hard to pull and the kite is really responsive to every command you give. At this day I flew also the Blade III 4,0 and the radsail pro 6,0. The Blade III 4,0 is just fantastic and much more controllable and faster than mine, but generates less power. The radsail pro had less power than the other two and also was not behaving alright with the gusts.

I’ve been flying my Blade everyday since I got it and every time I fly, I have something new to learn about them. They need a LOT of respect, especially in gusty winds. Comparing with my old Symphony 3.3 it’s a lot slower, but for the size it’s fast enough. It’s a kite you can fly almost without wind and still have fun. It has loads of power in the middle of the window, awesome lift, very stable, and very responsive. I’ve been scudding and jumping with it and now I will start to land boarding with it. First I wanted to get more confident and secure with this beast. One more time, it needs a lot of respect, and that what I’m doing. Learning and respecting a bit more everyday. It’s a kite that allows you to fly in a wide wind range, from almost nothing till you can hold yourself in the floor. But is very sensible to know when there is too much wind and go for the old smaller kites.

    Conclusion

Cheap, beautiful, excellent construction, awesome power (respect), stable, very good handles, not worse at all than the mk2 and mk3 ones….and everything else that people already knows since time.
